Its life-skills based curriculum helps engage students in topics such as personal development, health and wellness, education (college and career exploration), decision making/organization, relationships and finances. Title: Director of Development

Right Moves For Youth ("RMFY") is a school-based prevention and support program that collaborates with  Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the Mecklenburg County  Sheriff's Office and other community partners to help students in middle and high schools understand the  importance of graduating, and the impact that having a high school diploma can have on their lives. Staff  and volunteers work with students to help them learn and practice new skills, give and receive peer  support, develop positive relationships with adult mentors, and find new meaning in succeeding in school  and graduating. The mission of Right Moves for Youth is to provide the resources and guidance to help  students graduate high school with a plan for their future success. 

Position Summary: RMFY is seeking an organized and results-driven self-starter to lead our  development efforts. This person is responsible for providing leadership in the planning, implementation,  and management or the organization's advancement efforts including: fundraising (individual, corporate,  foundation, governmental and special events); donor research and cultivation; and grant writing and  management. This person will also assist with agency marketing, public relations and communications.

A. Donor Identification, Cultivation, Solicitation & Stewardship 35%

I. Strategic Focus 

A. Donor Identification, Cultivation, Solicitation & Stewardship 

1. Develop and maintain direct fundraising campaigns (annual fund, corporate partnership, major gift solicitations, direct mail and e-solicitations, etc.) 

2. Participate in the identification and cultivation of major donor relationships 

3. Assist with RMFY's largest annual event, the Twilight 5k, and oversee other event  planning and management  

4. Manage development employees (contracted or otherwise) to successfully garner  agency resources 

5. Approve and track all third-party fundraising efforts from which RMFY receives  proceeds 

6. Coordinate and manage all agency-led donor stewardship and cultivation events in  partnership with other staff and board members 

7. Oversee grant process and approve all applications for submission 

B. Development Operations 

1. Manage the donor database 

a. Ensure accuracy of donor and prospect data 

b. Audit donor and prospect profiles  

c. Develop reports and dashboards that reflect donor and prospect activity to share with Staff and Board Leadership  

2. Ensure appropriate contact with donors

a. Implement a donor acknowledgement process that acknowledges gifts within  24 hours of receipt 

b. Implement a donor stewardship process that encourages long-term relationships with RMFY 

3. Work with the Executive Director, Board and other staff to honor donor's support of the RMFY mission  

4. Assists in the engagement and cultivation of volunteers and donors 

C. Management of an Annual Development Plan 

1. Create and implement an Annual Development Plan with measurable goals and  objectives 

2. Monitor and report on yearly fundraising goals to guide fundraising strategy

3. Lead Staff and Board Leadership in the identification of funding trends and funding  environment with strategies for the best course of action 

D. Public Communications  

1. Assist the Community Engagement Director with content management for the  agency website, social media and donor and prospect communication 

2. Participate in development of media relationships and in the dissemination of agency  news through various channels, including social media, print media, and electronic  media 

3. Aid in the development and dissemination of agency newsletter (e-newsletter) 4. Ensure agency communications, grants and solicitations, represent the best of the  agency

III. Qualifications 

A. Bachelor's Degree, CFRE preferred 

B. Minimum of 5-7 years of development and communications experience with proven results

C. Affinity for organizations that serve education, human services and/or other nonprofit programs  and proven record of communicating those missions to a variety of potential stakeholders  (volunteers, collaborative partners, advocates and/or donors) 

D. Proficiency with fund development databases and analysis 

E. Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, desktop databases, presentation  software, etc. 

F. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to proofread and correct  errors 

G. Sensitivity to and ability to work with diverse groups 

H. Ability to exercise discretion while managing confidential information

I. Ability to work flexible hours (including some evenings and weekends) as approved by the  Executive Director

The work environment and working conditions described here are representative of those that are  typical of the job and must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of  this job. Duties are typically performed in a professional office environment under usual office working  conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones,  photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the office environment is typical  with some telephone, personal interruptions, and background noises. 


V. Special Requirements 

A. Licensures, Credentials, etc. 

a. All employees must pass a criminal history background investigation. 

b. Must possess a current driver's license and personal liability insurance. 

c. Must possess or be able to obtain current First Aid and/or CPR certification if requested by employer. 

B. Physical Demands 

a. This role is moderately sedentary, and requires hand dexterity for office machine  operations, stooping and bending to files and supplies, mobility to complete errands, and  sitting for extended periods of time. 

b. Ability to lift a minimum of 30 lbs. a minimum of six times annually for bulk mailing,  printing and supplies. 

c. Vision: Required to read and produce written documents, pull reports from the  computer. Use of an automobile is occasionally required. 

d. Hearing: Required to hear telephone and office equipment, communicate with staff and  public by telephone and in person. Required to hear sounds that may affect driving. e. Speaking: Required to enunciate and relay information in person and via telephone. f. Agility/Dexterity: Physical dexterity to write, input and retrieve data from computer and  operate office equipment daily. 

C. Mental Demands 

a. Frequent public and coworker contact, occasional working alone. 

b. Regularly required to use written and oral communication skills. 

c. Must observe and interpret situations, read and interpret data, information and  documents. 

d. Must analyze and solve complex problems, and use math and mathematical reasoning. e. Usually requires performance of highly detailed work under changing, intensive  deadlines, on multiple concurrent tasks.  

f. Pressure of fundraising, donor management and sales to meet budgetary demands.  g. Ability to handle exposure to traffic conditions and external environment when traveling  from one location to another. 

h. May have to deal with stressful situations and hostile clients.
